Napkins & Table Consumables — Common Questions

What are napkins and table consumables in a commercial setting?+

Napkins and table consumables are the single-use paper and fibre products placed at the table or packed with takeaway orders. They cover everything from basic 1-ply dinner napkins and cocktail napkins through to airlaid premium napkins, cutlery pouches and bundled cutlery-napkin-condiment sets. In a commercial kitchen context they are a recurring cost of service, so buying in carton quantities keeps your per-unit cost down.

What napkin and table consumable products does Chefs Depot stock?+

The range includes 1-ply and 2-ply folded napkins in 1/4 and 1/8 folds, quilted white napkins, bamboo-fibre napkins, airlaid dinner napkins, kraft and white cutlery pouches with napkins, and complete bundled sets that include wooden cutlery, a napkin, salt and pepper. Brands available are BioPak, Pac TRADING, Caprice, San Jamar and Trenton.

Airlaid dinner napkins or standard paper napkins — which suits my venue better?+

Standard 1-ply or 2-ply paper napkins work well for casual dining, cafes and fast-casual takeaway where volume is high and cost-per-cover matters most. Airlaid napkins have a cloth-like feel and hold their shape on the table, making them a better fit for mid-range restaurants and event catering where presentation counts. Your choice will depend on the experience you want guests to have rather than any single specification.

How do cutlery pouches with napkins work, and are they worth it?+

Cutlery pouches combine a folded napkin with a pre-rolled or pre-sleeved set of disposable cutlery in one ready-to-hand piece. They save your team the time of rolling cutlery individually during setup, and they present neatly for takeaway bags or food delivery orders. Pac TRADING stocks both kraft and white versions, and BioPak offers sets that include wooden cutlery alongside the napkin and condiment sachets.

How many napkins or cartons should I order for my operation?+

That depends on your covers per day and whether napkins sit on the table or go out with takeaway orders. A busy cafe or restaurant running multiple sittings will go through cartons quickly. Most products here are packed in carton quantities ranging from around 1000 to 4000 sheets, so buying at least one to two cartons per product line gives you a working buffer without tying up too much storage space.

Do bamboo napkins perform differently from standard white paper napkins?+

Bamboo-fibre napkins are made from a fast-growing plant material and are a popular choice for venues that want to reduce their reliance on virgin wood pulp. In day-to-day use they feel and perform similarly to standard white paper napkins at comparable ply. They suit cafes and eateries that highlight sustainability to their customers, and Pac TRADING stocks them in the same carton format as the white range for easy swapping.

How should I store napkins and table consumables in a commercial kitchen?+

Keep cartons off the floor on shelving in a dry storeroom away from cooking steam and moisture. Napkins absorb ambient humidity quickly, which causes them to go limp or stick together before use. Rotate stock so older cartons are used first. Once a carton is opened, keep remaining product in its original packaging or a sealed container to maintain quality through service.

Are these products suitable for food delivery and third-party platforms?+

Yes. Cutlery pouches, bundled sets and individually folded napkins are all well suited to delivery bags and takeaway containers. BioPak's wooden cutlery and napkin sets in particular are designed with delivery presentation in mind. Choosing a pouch format also means customers receive cutlery and a napkin together, which reduces complaints about missing items in delivery orders.

Do Chefs Depot members get a better price on napkins and table consumables?+

Members save off RRP across the full range of napkins, cutlery pouches and bundled sets. Given that these are high-turnover consumables ordered in carton quantities, the saving adds up quickly across a full year of purchasing. Signing up for a member account before you add cartons to your cart is the simplest way to make sure your team gets the trade price every time.

What do napkins and table consumables cost at Chefs Depot?+

Pricing varies by product type, ply count, fold style and carton size. Bulk-packed 1-ply napkins in large carton quantities sit at the lower end of the range, while airlaid dinner napkins and bundled cutlery-napkin-condiment sets sit higher due to the additional materials and packaging involved. Members save off RRP on all lines, and Australia-wide delivery is available on every order.
